The Rock of Ikari is one of Ikaria’s most impressive and mythical spots. On the island’s south side, about 50 meters from the village of Chrysostomos, it rises from the sea, offering enchanting views and linking natural beauty with mythology. According to the myth, this is where Icarus lost his wings and sank into the sea. On land near the rock, a small stone amphitheater has been built, which hosts cultural and local events, combining history with the cultural life of today’s community. The area is also known for the iron‑nickel ores found scattered in fields and called the “blood of Icarus” in local tradition. Access is by private vehicle, and the route offers unique views of the traditional character and natural beauty of southern Ikaria.
