Lemnos
Kornos

Kornos took its name from the spring (krounos = fountain) in the settlement and its abundant waters. Another view is that the name came from the settlement Kourouni of Agios Dimitrios. Many of the island’s benefactors, mainly Egyptian-Greek emigrants, hail from here. The best known was Odysseas I. Pantelidis. Near the village are Therma with their thermal, healing springs. The water comes from a depth of 1,200 meters, has a temperature of 42–44°C, and is recommended for balneotherapy and drinking cures. It contains very little salt, is clear, and pleasant-tasting. Baths operated there at least since 1548. Today, the spring water is used as drinking water by many Lemnians, who flock there to fill their flasks from the old fountains.
