Chios Maritime Museum

The Chios Maritime Museum is housed in the traditional mansion of the late Anastasios and Marouko Pateras in the city center, donated in 1991 to the eponymous Public Benefit Foundation by their heirs. The museum covers a significant part of the island’s maritime history, as Chios is known for its centuries-long contribution to shipping and trade. Its aim is to illustrate the most important facet of the island’s life, collecting objects and organizing the historical record of local maritime tradition as well as developments in shipping and merchant vessels. Its activities include lectures and conferences on Chios and seafaring and collaborations with other maritime museums of the Greek archipelago.
