Lemnos
Fort of Dapia Tsas
The Dapia district in Myrina spreads along the foot of Tsas Hill, where a small fort dominates with direct visual contact with the city’s castle. The name “Tsas,” of Russian origin, means “observatory” or “station” and is linked to the period of the Orlov Revolt (1770), when the Russians, during the Russo-Turkish War, built the fort on the hilltop to site their artillery. At that time, Myrina Castle was under siege, as the city’s Turkish population had gathered there. The siege ended with the arrival of Ottoman reinforcements, resulting in the Russians’ defeat and withdrawal. Today, the Tsas fort is accessible via a cobbled road and is a visitable monument that attests to an important chapter in Lemnos’ history.
